Description générale

Digital Audio processing
We live in a digital age. Today’s studios require monitors with the option of a digital input. Because of its unique compactness, the tried and true M 50 was a natural candidate for use in digital applications. With many editing suites and audio workstations today, digital output Signals are commonplace, so equipping reference monitors with digital inputs and integrated D/A converters makes a good deal of sense.

M 50 + digital input = M 50 D
We therefore took the M 50, expanded upon the existing design, equipped it with switchable inputs for both analog and digital signals in AES/EBU and S/P-DIF format, and christened the new model the M 50 D. The D/A converter has 24-bit resolution and a sampling rate of 32 - 48 kHz. The analog input is transformer-balanced and floating, and the transformerly employed is excellent. The digital input encompasses both stereo channels. A rotary switch on the front panel allows you to select from four sources: the analog input, digital left, digital right, or both digital channels combined.
Power switch, volume control, and the channel assignment switch are all conveniently located on the front panel of the compact cabinet. The rear panel hosts an XLR connector which can accept either the analog signal or the AES/EBU digital signal, and a BNC connector for a S/P-DIF digital signal, which makes for easy daisy-chaining.
The mains socket, the fuse holder, and the blade terminals for connection to a 12 -14 volt battery are located on the rear.

A variety of digital applications
With its magnetic shielding, the M 50 D is an excellent match for digital audio workstations, or as a control monitor with a digital mixing console or switcher. With its compact dimensions, the M 50 D lends itself well to many other application areas, such as video editing suites, multimedia projects, surround-sound systems, broadcast vans, and compact rack-mounted systems. With its ability to switch easily between digital and analog inputs, the M 50 D can be implemented wherever a precise control monitor is required.

Astounding sound
The all-aluminium enclosure offers maximum interior volume. Added rigidity from inner wall bracing ensures an absence of resonant colorations. The extraordinary 4” broadband driver performs remarkably for an enclosure of this size, delivering accurate, smooth response and low distortion across the entire frequency spectrum.
The M 50 D offers the same flexible mounting options as the M 50. The LH11 desktop stand allows optimal workstation placement and mounting.

Magnetic shielding
The monitor comes standard with magnetic shielding, making placement next to video monitors or hard-disk drives no cause for concern.
